I almost was a rock star once,
but I've gone back to tending my own gardens.
I've gone back to the planting and pruning
keeping hearthstones warm and unsullied.
I've given in to youthful domesticity
given up fame's fancy fight
gone past the cynicism
gone to bed for a fresh start.
Everyday I hear a clean pop sound
past and present in our little garden
beyond the city way out in Wivenhoe.
When my hands are washed of soil
we still rehearse the band
(rehearse, not practice)
as wizened road warriors
parochial legends.
I might almost be a rock star again,
but who cares\(em
I've become quite a good gardener.
